The Andalusian Wild Fig is a small, natural fig from the Alpujarra mountains in Andalusia.
The breath-taking mountains and valleys of the Alpujarras are known for their natural beauty and ecological diversity. Nestled in the foothills of the Sierra Nevada mountain chain (culminating in a peak of 3482m), the Alpujarra region stretches from Granada in the north to the shores of the Mediterranean in the south.
Here in these mountains, the air is at its purest in Europe, and thanks to the altitude it never gets as hot up here as it does down on the coast.
This region is also something of a Mecca for walking and trekking, with its myriad hiking trails. The Alpujarras are blessed with unique climatic conditions: sea breezes from the Mediterranean that alternate with sea air from the Atlantic, combined with plentiful sunshine.
It is in this environment, at altitudes between 800m and 1400m, that the fig trees producing Andalusian Wild Figs grow.
It is to these geographical and climatic conditions that the Andalusian Wild Figs owe their inimitable flavour and character.
“Andalusian Wild Figs®”
Until recently the figs from the Alpujarra region were a delicacy known only to the locals and many of the figs therefore went unharvested.
Then the Alpujarra region, being mountainous and poorly-connected, found itself facing a major problem of isolation and rural exodus.
Out of concern for this depopulation and a desire to safeguard the age-old practices of the fig harvest, José Manuel Puertas and his wife, both from the Alpujarras, decided to take action. Pooling the harvest from several different smallholders, they established a packaging facility so that the fruit could be distributed and thus discovered and appreciated by an increasing number of customers.
Today, thanks to this method of organisation, the smallholders of the Alpujarras can make a living from the fig harvest. In José Manuel’s packaging plant, the figs are carefully sorted, without any need of rehydration (they retain their natural softness).
Because the plant is used solely for the packaging of these local figs, our Andalusian Wild Figs® are completely free from any traces of nuts, soy or other ingredients.

My deep connection to Andalusian culture and all that it has to offer stems from my Spanish roots. For me, bringing this fruit and its associated cultural heritage to France is a way of sharing a taste of Andalusia and its exotic sunshine around French tables.
Having grown up in the countryside, I have always been very aware of the importance of natural, healthy food and well-being. Nature knows best and gives us fruit exactly as it is intended to be enjoyed. That’s why I have made it my mission to share these values, and I can achieve this through our work with Andalusian Wild Figs®.
